ESM is the successor of FAG Strahlenmesstechnik. The enterprise was founded in 1945 as Frieseke & Hoepfner with the development, industrial production and sales of 
radiation measuring instruments.
From the very beginning these instruments were distinguished by technical innovation 
establishing  market leadership. In 1969, particulate measurement instruments for environmental protection were added to the program and enabled ESM to become leaders in the environmental industry.
