| ADF is an intelligent ratemeter function for evaluation of statistically
distributed events with self adjusting time constants. It provides automatic adaption to
the varying rate of detector signals due to variable intensity of radiation caused
by changing distance between a radiaoactive source and the detector. This is specially
of importance for search and monitoring applications where neither the time, nor the
magnitude nor the duration of a variation can be predicted. If the time
constant is too low the rate meter will react 'nervous' and produce false alarms based on
statistical deviations. If the time constant is too high fast events may be
overlooked. To make it worse even the base, the natural radiation background, may change
considerably.
