Radioactivity Monitors for mobile Investigation  -- GPS-supported

back
back
The radiological equipment for 350 mobile NBC-investigation units of the BZS (Federal Office for Civil Protection, Germany) has been supplied by Thermo Eberline ESM, Erlangen.

Locally concentrated radiation or large area radioactive contamination are  continuously measured and recorded while driving at cruising speed.

Additionally fast and reliable discrimination between natural and artificial radioactivity is achieved  with NBR-detector technology. This way conventional but time consuming spectroscopic investigations can be directed to appropriate places of interest for detail analysis.

Cars
The radioactivity is measured by the Multi Purpose Surveymeter FH 40 G-L with a large plastic scintillation detector FHZ 672-2 with integrated NBR-technique.

A  proportional detector inside the survey meter FH 40&nbspG measures the local dose rate. The NBR-detector is simultaneously operated  as external probe for measurements with high sensitivity and detection of artificial radiation.

The FH 40 G-L is type tested by PTB and approved for use by fire brigades. The NBR-detector and the NBR-technique is approved by TÜV Hannover/Sachsen-Anhalt.

FH 40 G and NBR-detector
The measured data are recorded by a computer. A GPS system adds the local coordinates and the results are displayed on a map. The track of the investigation is displayed colour coded (depending on radiation level).

Optionally   collected data may be transmitted on-line by radio to a central for detail evaluation and decision about further actions required.
